Ryan stared at the track, his heart pounding.

"You sure you're ready?" Coach Miller asked, watching him carefully.

Ryan took a deep breath. "I have to be. A young athlete recovering from a severe injury to achieve their dream of competing again doesn’t get to hesitate."

Coach nodded. "Alright. Just a light jog to start."

Ryan pushed off, his muscles tensing with every step. It had been months since the accident, months of pain and doubt. But he refused to let it define him.

Halfway down the track, his leg wobbled. He gritted his teeth, pushing forward.

"Easy, Ryan," Coach called out. "Listen to your body."

Ryan slowed, frustration bubbling up. "I don’t want to take it easy. I want to be back where I was."

Coach placed a hand on his shoulder. "A young athlete recovering from a severe injury to achieve their dream of competing again has to be patient. Healing isn’t just physical—it’s mental too."

Ryan exhaled. He knew Coach was right, but patience wasn’t his strong suit.

Later that evening, he sat with his best friend, Ava.

"Rough day?" she asked, passing him a bottle of water.

Ryan nodded. "I hate feeling weak. What if I never make it back?"

Ava nudged him playfully. "You will. Because you're stubborn. And because a young athlete recovering from a severe injury to achieve their dream of competing again never gives up."

Ryan smiled. "You sound like Coach."

"Maybe he’s right."

The next morning, Ryan returned to the track. His body ached, but his determination was stronger. He knew the road ahead wouldn’t be easy, but every step brought him closer to his dream.

A young athlete recovering from a severe injury to achieve their dream of competing again doesn’t let setbacks stop them. And Ryan wouldn’t either.
