A Single Parent Balancing Work and Study to Provide a Better Life for Their Child

Emma sighed, resting her head on her laptop keyboard.

"Mum, you're falling asleep again." Lily, her ten-year-old daughter, stood by the table, arms crossed.

Emma smiled weakly. "Just a little tired, sweetheart. One more page to finish my assignment."

Lily pulled out a chair. "You always say that. You work all day, study all night. When do you sleep?"

Emma reached for Lily’s hand. "I’m doing this for us. A single parent balancing work and study to provide a better life for their child has to work extra hard, but it’ll all be worth it."

Lily frowned. "But I miss you. We never get time together anymore."

Emma’s heart clenched. She had been so focused on juggling her job and degree that she hadn’t realised how much Lily longed for her attention.

"How about a deal?" Emma said. "Saturday is just for us. No work, no studying. We’ll do whatever you want."

Lily’s face brightened. "Really? Can we go to the zoo?"

Emma chuckled. "Absolutely. But you have to help me stay awake until I finish this."

Lily grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around Emma’s shoulders. "Fine. But I’m setting a bedtime alarm for you."

Emma laughed, pulling her daughter into a hug.

Being a single parent balancing work and study to provide a better life for their child was exhausting, but in that moment, Emma knew she was doing it for the right reasons. She wasn’t just working toward a degree—she was building a future for both of them.

As Lily nestled beside her, Emma felt a renewed determination. They would get through this, together.
